Wanagt Lodge is located 20km north of Dungog in Bandon Grove. It is set on the Chichester River amongst the forest in the sub-tropical foothills of the Barrington Tops.

This camp is for Simply Homeschool families. We welcome both Simply Homeschool paid members and trial members. Paid members will receive a discount and have access to an exclusive early sign-up date.

Yes. If your child is too young for a bed please feel free to bring a portacot

Yes. Dinner is provided on the first evening of the camp but will be self-catered the rest of the time. Cottages have their own kitchen and all lodge rooms have access to a fully equipped commercial kitchen with 6-burner hob/oven/grill, 2 large fridges, toasters, microwave and hot water urn.

Nearby Dungog has an IGA and a good variety of speciality shops including a butcher, bakery, fruit and veg, cafes etc. Dungog is approx. 20 minutes from Wangat Lodge.

No. We encourage you to participate in activities but please feel free to relax in the peaceful, natural surroundings as well.

There will be activities throughout the camp that accommodate all levels of ability.

This camp is being organised by Simply Homeschool and will be held at Wangat Lodge.

Wangat Lodge staff will be facilitating activities during the camp. Wangat Lodge Staff include Dan Lyons (owner of Wangat and outdoor educator and practitioner of Bush Adventure Therapy with a BA in Environmental History and qualifies in Adventure Based Youth Work and Outdoor Recreation), Nikki Brown (local wildcraft and survivalist, bush tucker expert and outdoor educator with many years experience and an amazing mum) and Mahli Hawke (Also wildcraft expert but specialist in folk-story telling, animal movement and tracking and also a fully qualified teacher. He runs many mentoring programs for youth and teens).

This camp is:

  • Fully risk-assessed
  • Facilitated by professional, exceptionally experienced and specialist guides who are trained in 1st Aid and have current WWCC

Yes - Non-members will need to sign up for a Free Trial Membership to attend. Simply Homeschool Full Members receive a discounted rate and have an exclusive early sign-up date. Note that Trial Members are not eligible for this rate.

This camp is designed for school-age children. Children under school age are also welcome to attend.

The Simply Homeschool Wangat Camp is a family camp and children under 18 are not permitted to attend without a guardian. 

There will be a range of activities at the camp. Some of these activities may be appropriate for children aged 7+ to participate in without their parent or guardian in attendance. A full schedule of activities will be released before the camp. 

Cancellations received in writing to Simply Homeschool by Monday 5 August 2019 will be accepted and all fees refunded less an AUD $100 administrative fee.

Cancellations received after this date cannot be accepted and will not be refunded, however, transfer of your registration to another person is acceptable.

No refunds will be made for non-attendance at the Camp.

There are two types of accommodation at Wangat Lodge.

Rooms: Rooms are bunk style accommodation that sleep  4 people or 6 people. Rooms include doonas, blankets and pillows (guests are required to supply their own sheets, pillow slip and towel). All rooms access shared bathrooms and a fully equipped commercial kitchen with 6-burner hob/oven/grill, 2 large fridges, toasters, microwave, hot water urn. Rooms that sleep 4 people include 2 single beds and 1 bunk bed (2 singles). Rooms that sleep 6 people include 2 joinable single beds and 2 bunk beds (4 singles).


Cottages: There are two cottages at Wangat Lodge.

The Melia Cottage sleeps 5 and with 1 x queen bed and 3 x single beds. All bedding is provided (please bring towels). This cottage has a bathroom with shower. The Melia cottage has a kitchen with a 2-burner gas hob, electric cooking pot, microwave, kettle and toaster plus a mini Webber BBQ.

The Clancy cottage sleeps 7 people with 1 x queen bed, 2 x bunk beds (4 singles) and 1 sofabed. All bedding is included (please bring towels). This cottage has a bathroom with a shower and bath. The Clancy Cottage has a kitchen with gas hob and oven, microwave, kettle and toaster.


All accommodation has access to:

  • Large communal area with dining tables, couches, wood burner, table tennis and natural history library
  • Outside deck with large gas BBQ
  • Outside fire pit/ BBQ area with tiered seating
  • Forest amphitheatre
  • Beach volleyball/badminton court

The first day we will do a short orientation and a river walk on the property, finishing with a swim.

The next two full days will be an amazing deeply nature immersive experience with all sorts of walks, bush tucker, workshops, games and activities. These are arranged and led by experienced Wangat Lodge Staff who are skilled in local wildcraft, bush tucker, folk-story telling, animal movement and tracking. 

The final, fourth day will be time for free exploring or wrapping up any craft or other activities with a final lunch before departure. 

Each evening there will be an activity (e.g. spotlighting, story telling, frogging, night walks, campfire etc)

The final program will be based on the ages of children and sent to those who are attending the camp.

Yes. We offer an option where you can pay with 3 equal installments. The first installment will occur when you register (only available in May and June).  Payments 2 & 3 will be deducted from the nominated credit card on 15 July and 15 August.
