How much should we do each day?

Choose what works for your children. Simply Homeschool is a smorgasbord - you don't need to eat everything every day!!

Some suggestions for various Grades:

Grades K-2: 30mins to 1hr per day 3-4 days per week

Grades 3-5: 1-1.5hrs per day

Grades 6-8: 1.5-2.5 hours per day

Grades 9+: 2-3.5 hours per day

Some Organisational Suggestions:

English, Maths + one Core - Each day do some English, some Maths, and one more subject

Make a timetable including all your 'out' activities, then fit your Lessons in around these

Take turns to choose activities - parent/child

Do what works and change it when it doesn't work. Your kids grow and change and each child is different.

You'll probably need to alter your approach many times before you find your sweet spot.

Two important things:

Your child will learn when their mind and body are engaged and motivated. If something is interesting to them, focus on that - it's more efficient.

Flow matters - once you're engaged in something, there's a depth of learning beyond box ticking. For example, if your child is engaged in a maths activity, don't stop them to start English - let them stay engaged until their mind is tired and they need a break. Then take a break - include sunlight, food, water, and physical activity.
