What Could You Do with Two Free Months of Simply Homeschool?

Every November, our special gives you 14 months of Simply Homeschool for the price of 12 when you sign up for an annual membership. Two of those months fall over summer, when many families take a break from their usual homeschool routine. You might be wondering: what can you do with those extra months if you aren’t planning to keep up with regular lessons?

Quite a lot, if you want to - and absolutely nothing formal or structured, if that’s what your family needs or wants.

The extra time isn’t there to turn summer into an extra school session. It gives you a little more room around your learning year: time to rest, follow an interest, try an activity together or return to your usual rhythm when the holidays are over.

Choose one activity, not a whole program

A Simply Homeschool program can include lots of ideas, but you don’t have to do every activity in order. Some activities stand happily on their own. You can choose one that suits your child, gather what you need and enjoy it without planning a full day of lessons around it.

Take Make Science Fun, for example. You could spend an afternoon making fizzy bath bombs, create swirling patterns of colour with milk and dish soap, or have a go at the classic tablecloth pull to explore inertia. You might even investigate whether marshmallows of different colours cook at different rates!

Each activity is a little adventure in itself. Choose the one that catches your child's imagination, gather a few supplies and see what happens. There's no need to work through the entire program or turn it into a formal science lesson.

That might be just right for a quiet afternoon at home, a rainy day, or a moment when everyone is ready for something different.

Follow a question that pops up

Summer is full of things to notice. A walk, a trip to the beach, something growing in the garden or a question at the dinner table can lead in an unexpected direction. If an activity in the program connects with what your child is already curious about, you can follow that thread for a little while.

You might head outside with I Love Dirt and turn an ordinary walk into a little flower-finding adventure. How many different colours can you spot? What shapes and sizes are the flowers? Are any bees or butterflies visiting?

Take photographs of your favourites, and if you're feeling creative when you get home, print them out and arrange them into a colourful flower collage. Or simply enjoy the walk, the discoveries and the conversations along the way.

Sometimes the loveliest learning happens when you stop to notice what's right in front of you.

There’s no need to turn that interest into a big project. One conversation, one experiment or one creative activity can be enough.

Keep something up your sleeve

Some days are full of outings and visitors. Others are slow, hot or a bit restless. Having a few activities you can choose from can be handy when you’re looking for something to do together. Pick what feels manageable that day, and leave the rest for another time.

You could whip up a batch of 15-minute drop biscuits from Attainable Sustainable: EAT when everyone feels like something delicious, or explore the designs in Paper Planes and set up a paper plane race.

Or pull out the paints and play with colour using MASTERpieces. Experiment with mixing primary colours to see how many new shades you can create, or have a go at making your own colour wheel.

A little baking, some friendly competition or an afternoon of colourful creativity. Sometimes it's lovely just to have a few ideas ready for when inspiration strikes.

Make Something Wonderful Together

Summer holidays are the perfect opportunity to slow down, spend time together and create something your family will treasure long after the season has ended.

And with two whole months to play with, why not embark on a special family project?

Create a Big Family Scrapbook

Imagine spending the summer collecting all those little moments that make your family your family.

With our Big Family Scrapbook Core, you'll explore family traditions, share stories, enjoy activities together and capture your favourite memories along the way. Movie nights, cooking adventures, outdoor explorations, dance parties and plenty of opportunities to laugh, connect and create.

By the end of summer, you'll have a beautiful, personalised scrapbook filled with memories of the time you spent together. Not just a learning project, but a keepsake you'll treasure for years to come.

And sometimes, take the break

You might use one activity a week. You might dip in only when something catches your eye. Or you might close the books for a while and enjoy a proper summer break. All of those are valid ways to spend the season.

The value of the extra two months is having the flexibility to use them when they suit your family. They can make space for a slower summer, a few shared activities, and a gentler return to your usual routine, without asking you to recreate a school day during the holidays.

With the November Special, you’ll receive 14 months of Simply Homeschool for the price of 12. However your summer looks, those extra months are there for you to use in a way that feels right for your family.
