Welcome to Mt Gambier
Explore the natural playground of Mt Gambier as we immerse ourselves in the land of sinkholes, caves, and crater lakes!
We are embarking on an adventure to discover some of the Limestone Coast’s most unforgettable experiences – even those that are hidden from sight!
Descend into the geological wonderland of the region’s caves with a guided tour to learn about the region’s underground water system and the history of the caves.
You’ll be amazed by the dazzling cobalt blue of Blue Lake, filtered through limestone, which serves as the city’s water supply, and delighted by the rose-filled cave garden – a historic garden flowing deep into a cenote in the middle of the city.
Take a deliciously cold dip in the crystal-clear water of Little Blue Lake, a water-filled cenote located in the Kanawinka volcanic area between two dormant volcanoes!
Mount Schank dominates the skyline south of Mount Gambier, and we will climb hundreds of steps to enjoy sweeping 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape with its richly textured patchwork of fertile paddocks and the ocean beyond.
We’ll catch a screening of the movie Volcano, the story of Earth, Fire and Water, beginning with the local Aboriginal Dreamtime story, Craitbul.
For at least 30,000 years, the Limestone Coast has been home to the Boandik, Bindjali and Ngarrindjeri people.
For a truly immersive First Nations experience, we will go on tour with Boandik Elder, Ken Jones on a cultural and foraging journey to identify, touch and taste some of the finest bush foods along the incredible Port MacDonnell coastline.
