Immerse yourself in the political intrigue of a historical royal conquest for the double crown in Ancient Egypt. Escape the drudgery of slavery with Mara as she masterfully navigates the dangerous road of playing double spy - on both sides of the battle for the throne.  

In this class, students will: 

  • examine the literary skills of Eloise Jarvis McGraw 
  • identify implicit character revelations  
  • analyse archetypes and look at literary genres 
  • encounter the juxtaposition of fighting forces 
  • search for symbols and explore emotive language 
  • contemplate the significance of conflict as you climb the story arc and, 
  • take time for personal reflections on significant characters and the novel as a whole. 

Course Requirements: This class will require 2-3 hours homework per week, including reading 3 chapters per week and completing writing assignments. 

This class is available to Simply Homeschool members and non-members. 

This class has two lessons per week, on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Live Class, T1 2025, Junior Creative Writing: Hidden

What does it mean to be hidden? In this creative writing class, students will explore different ways people and things can be hidden. Does your character have a secret? Or maybe they can be invisible? Maybe your character has a hidden identity...why are they hiding? And what’s at stake if they are discovered? Only you have the answers! 

In this class, students will: 

  • explore and discuss the idea of hidden 
  • use creative writing prompts to create written responses 
  • think creatively with question prompts to develop interesting backstories for characters 
  • write short creative stories 

This class is available to both Simply Homeschool members and non-members.

Use LEGO to explore multiplication and division patterns (x0, x1, x2, x4, x5 and x10) to create a solid foundation for all other mathematics. 

In this class, students will:  

  • play with multiplication patterns (x0, x1, x2, x4, x5 and x10)  

  • construct a LEGO hundreds chart to visualise repeated addition and build skip counting skills 

  • develop a growing comprehension of the inverse connection between multiplication and division  

  • use money for real-life application 

  • discover the connection between multiplication and area with LEGO arrays 

  • spend two minutes a day increasing speed and accuracy with multiplication facts 

Course Requirements: To benefit from this class, students will need to be able to: 

  • count to 100 

  • not put small pieces in their mouth 

  • stay focused on using the LEGO for the maths activity 

We recommend that all students under 10, and those over 10 with additional needs requiring support be accompanied by a parent or helpful older sibling.

Live Class, T1 2025, Hands-On History - Ancient Egypt

Travel back in time to Ancient Egypt and experience all the fun stuff for those who learn by doing! 

In this class, students will: 

  • create a papyrus scroll using traditional methods 
  • wrap their imagination around the mummification process while mummifying an apple pharaoh 
  • disguise themselves as Tutankhamen with a life-sized golden mask 
  • research everything they’ve ever wanted to know about Ancient Egypt 
  • investigate ancient technology while exploring the power of pulleys, ramps, towers and counterweights 
  • study hieroglyphs and write their own mysterious message 
  • experiment with various substances to reduce friction  
  • swing a shaduf and pivot a walking tower 
  • fashion Ancient Egyptian mini landmarks 
  • design a series of cartouches and,  
  • turn it all into a game to play with family and friends! 

This class is available to both Simply Homeschool & non-Simply Homeschool members. 

This online class requires Art and Craft Supplies. You can purchase the Hands-On History: Ancient Egypt Kit in our Resource Shop. There is also a kit for an additional child if you have multiple children participating.

We recommend that all students under 12, and those over 12 with additional needs requiring support, be actively supported by a parent or helpful older sibling.

Parental Supervision Required: This class requires use of a stove, hot glue gun and sharp cutting tools.

To benefit from this class, students will need:

  • access to all required resources 
  • time before each class to make any necessary preparations
  • the ability to focus on the project and follow instructions
  • time after each class to complete projects
  • allocated time during the week for homework: research and working on their game

Coming from Ancient Greek, dystopia means ‘bad place’. Explore the idea of dystopia in this creative writing class for teens.  

In this class, students will: 

  • explore and discuss the idea of dystopia 
  • delve into the world of speculative fiction 
  • design interesting characters 
  • create challenging conditions for their characters 
  • explore how characters will live within these challenging conditions, and 
  • write creative speculative fiction. 

This class is available to both Simply Homeschool members and non-members.

This is Part 2 of our LEGO Maths Multiplication and Division series. Use LEGO to explore multiplication and division patterns (x3, x6, x7, x8, x9) to create a solid foundation for all other mathematics. 

In this class, students will: 

  • construct a LEGO hundreds chart to visualise factors and multiples as well as prime and composite numbers 
  • develop functional comprehension of the inverse connection between multiplication and division 
  • apply the concepts of multiplication and division to area and volume 
  • explain the commutability of multiplication and demonstrate the power of ten 
  • spend 2 minutes a day increasing their speed and accuracy with multiplication and division facts 
  • engage in the useful skill of estimation, and 
  • dive into the waters of mathematical problem solving. 

Course Requirements: To benefit from this class, students will need to be able to:  

  • count to at least 1000  
  • have completed LEGO Maths Multiplication Part A OR are competent in the basics of multiplication and division with x0, x 1, x4, x5 and x10  
  • not put small pieces in their mouth  
  • stay focused on using the LEGO for the maths activity 

We recommend all students under 10 and those over 10 with additional needs requiring support be accompanied by a parent or helpful older sibling.

Dig into ancient history with an in-depth historical investigation. Which ancient figure will you choose? Rightful Pharoah Thutmose or Hatshepsut? Alexander the Great or the Brutal? Attila the Hun, ruthless barbarian or wise ruler?  

In this class, students will: 

  • formulate, test and modify propositions to investigate a chosen historical event 
  • frame questions to guide inquiry and develop a coherent research plan  
  • practise ethical scholarship 
  • identify, locate and organise relevant information from a range of primary and secondary sources 
  • identify the origin, purpose and context of historical sources 
  • analyse and account for the different perspectives of individuals and groups in the past 
  • identify two opposing perspectives and bias 
  • analyse, interpret and synthesise evidence from different types of sources to develop and sustain an historical argument 
  • use historical terms and concepts in appropriate contexts to demonstrate historical knowledge and understanding 
  • integrate appropriate evidence from a range of sources to explain the past and to support arguments 
  • draft, design, edit and publish an Ancient News Page from one perspective 
  • write, record and present a spoken news report (town crier style) to present an opposing perspective 
  • apply appropriate referencing techniques accurately and consistently  
  • evaluate written and spoken work using detailed rubrics

Characters drive a story, engage readers, and can turn a simple story into something unforgettable. In this character focused class, students will explore the notion of friendship as they build characters that feel relatable through the bonds they develop, the conflicts they have and the relationships they build. 

In this class, students will: 

  • respond to writing prompts based around friendship 
  • explore writing from different points of view, such as 1st person, 2nd person and 3rd person 
  • use creative questions to help scaffold their creative writing, and 
  • write about subjects such as making friends, best friends, groups of friends as well as friendships being challenged and/or betrayed

Use LEGO to explore fractions and decimals in this hands-on maths class.  

In this class, students will: 

  • discover the fraction/decimal connection by ordering numbers between zero and one on a LEGO number line 
  • convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions  
  • practise place value 
  • develop skills to add, subtract and multiply decimals and fractions with common denominators 
  • begin with LEGO, grid paper and graphs, then move onto solving number sentences  
  • make a card game  

Course Requirements: To benefit from this class, students will need to: 

  • have completed LEGO Maths Multiplication Parts A and B and/or are competent in the basics of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division 
  • not put small pieces in their mouth  
  • stay focused on using the LEGO for maths activities.

  • explore popular images of imposters like cuckoo birds, a wolf in sheep’s clothing, the Ancient Greek story of the Trojan Horse and the speculative fiction of humanoid aliens 
  • explore how narrative patterns can be reinvented in new contexts

This is Part 2 of our LEGO Maths Fractions, Decimals, Percentages and Ratios class. Use LEGO to explore mathematical concepts in this hands-on maths class. 

In this class, students will: 

  • add, subtract, multiply and divide with fractions, mixed numerals and decimals 
  • examine equivalent fractions 
  • investigate percentages to determine discounts 
  • mark-up wholesale prices and understand GST 
  • develop skills to round decimals, estimate answers and check calculations, and 
  • create a statistical investigation, collect and analyse data using graphs and tables in Excel. 

Course Requirements: To benefit from this class, students will need to be able to:  

  • count to at least 1000  
  • have completed LEGO Maths Fractions and Decimals Part A or are competent in converting fractions to decimals and vice versa 
  • add, subtract and multiply decimals and fractions with common denominators 
  • stay focussed on using the LEGO for the maths activity. 

We recommend all students with additional needs requiring support be accompanied by a parent or helpful older sibling.
