Nature Study and How To Start

Nature Study and How To Start

Fiona Morphett / 20 November 2019

Nature Study is a great way to get outdoors, but knowing how to start can be overwhelming. We've recently found some great tips to answer this question with ideas for different ages.

One of the best ways to start your homeschooling journey into Nature Study is with scavenger hunts! These are reasonably easy to make yourself by creating a list of things you are your kids are looking for but you can just as easily find some from Google and print them out!

Then all you need to do is grab a bag (for treasures) and a pencil and off you go. If you want to take it to the next level, invest in a nature journal and take some art supplies with you (coloured pencils and watercoloured paints) to do some extra study.

This is a great way to combine homeschool activities for different ages of children too. From preschoolers who love to smell and pick flowers and watch for ants to older children who can practice their drawing or write about their observations.

We're very excited to be adding Nature Study into a few of our new Core Programs. Watch out for Australian Backyard Explorer in early 2020.
